The Digital Transparency Research Excellence Cluster focuses on the design and effects of automated prediction algorithms, or artificial intelligence (AI), and the use of our data in powering these systems.

We advocate for the development and deployment of safe, transparent AI that recognizes the importance of data, its origins, uses and influences on AI predictions. Our mission is to promote a civil and informed understanding of data transparency, a strong literacy rate for responsible use of AI and a regulatory regime appropriate to Canada.

Our researchers bring expertise in human-computer interaction, visual computing, human rights health care, engineering and governance. We are committed to ensuring data safety in the design and deployment of visual and interactive tools that prioritize the needs and interests of individual users and societal groups. Our projects are intentionally interdisciplinary, fostering innovative solutions to the complex challenges of AI today and into the future.
