Literacy
To many people, artificial intelligence (AI), and the processes underpinning its operation, remains a mystery. If individuals had a better understanding of AI, would they be able to make more informed decisions about its use?
We are exploring what individuals need to know to safely and effectively utilize AI technologies. Our research evaluates AI literacy standards from various disciplinary perspectives, including computer science, engineering, education, political science and library sciences. The primary outcome of our research will be the development of literacy standards that empower citizens to use AI tools effectively, while thinking critically about AI-generated products and information.
We are currently designing and testing AI visualization literacy tools for both children and adults.
