Pourang Irani the Digital Transparency research cluster principal investigator.

Pourang Irani is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science at UBC Okanagan. A renowned computer scientist, his research focuses on human-computer interaction and information visualization, emphasizing the design and exploration of innovative interactive systems for sensemaking “anywhere” and “anytime.”

Dr. Irani’s lab leverages mixed reality (MR) and wearable technologies to develop cutting-edge prototypes of visual interfaces and devices. As a principal investigator on an NSERC CREATE grant, he leads the VADA program, which aims to train the next generation of data scientists in health data analytics.

Additionally, he advocates for the safe integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies for children, collaborating with the Honda Research Institute in Japan and UNICEF to create AI for social robots, ensuring their safe and ethical use by younger audiences.
