Mohamed Shehata

Dr. Mohamed S. Shehata is Professor of Computer Science at UBC Okanagan.
Dr. Shehata’s expertise lies in deep learning, computer vision and artificial intelligence (AI). He is a professional engineer in British Columbia, holds two issued patents and has authored over 120 papers in top-tier journals and conferences.
Dr. Shehata has received numerous recognitions and awards, including being named in the Stanford annual Top 2% World Researcher list since 2021 in AI. In addition to his academic research, he co-founded a successful startup company in Calgary in 2007 and serves on the advisory board of four Canadian companies.
Dr. Shehata obtained his BSc degree with honors in 1996 and his MSc degree in Computer Engineering in 2001 from Zagazig University, Egypt, followed by his PhD in 2005 from the University of Calgary, Canada. He served as the IEEE Newfoundland section chair from 2017-2019 and is the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Canadian Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
